Show Item or BoM? It's Up To You

Items in SAP Business One can serve dual purposes -- for example, when an item functions as both a standalone product and as a parent item within a bill of materials (BoM). It is quite common to see items that fulfill multiple roles and serve multiple purposes, much like computers that serve both work and gaming, or customers who also act as vendors.

Default Behavior and the Challenge

By default, clicking a link arrow next to an item code that is also a BoM opens the Bill of Materials window, displaying child items rather than the parent item's master data. This can be inconvenient when users need to quickly review the item's own details rather than its BoM structure.

The New Option

SAP Business One now offers a new option allowing you to decide whether the link arrow opens the Bill of Materials window or the Item Master Data of the parent item. This setting is user-configurable and disabled by default, giving users the flexibility to choose their preferred view based on their immediate needs at any time.
