SAP Business One tip
Locked Period? Transactions Are Open!
Practical guidance for getting the most out of your SAP Business One system.
While calendar years have clear start and end dates, accounting requires a different approach involving opening new posting periods and closing previous ones. Once periods are marked as 'Locked,' users typically cannot modify entries. However, SAP Business One offers a workaround through configuration that permits updates to specific fields even in locked periods.
Enabling Modifications in Locked Periods
The system includes a checkbox option that is unchecked by default. When activated, it enables modifications to specific fields within journal entries for locked posting periods.
- Reference fields (Ref. 1, Ref. 2, Ref. 3) can be updated
- Remarks field remains editable
- User-Defined Fields can be modified
Practical Benefits
This feature is particularly useful when corrections or additional annotations need to be added to journal entries after a period has been locked. It maintains the integrity of the financial postings while allowing essential metadata updates without reopening the entire period.
